Countybank Issues "Challenge Grant" to YMCA members

GREENWOOD, SC -Countybank Foundation recently issued a "Challenge Grant" to the existing members of the Greenwood Family YMCA. The foundation will match up to $10,000 in new money contributions made by the existing members to the Partners with Youth Annual Campaign. According to Denise Haburay, Community Resource Development Director of the YMCA, "We currently have approximately 3,500 family units that make up over 8,500 members, of these members only about 200 currently make gifts to the YMCA." James R. Fowler, Jr., executive vice president of Countybank commented, "Our goal in issuing this challenge grant is to assist the YMCA in increasing the number of existing members who donate back to the YMCA."

The Partners with Youth Campaign is an annual fundraising effort to assist in providing subsidized services such as after school care, day camps and sports programs. Of the donations received one hundred percent are used to provide these programs and services to children in Greenwood County. "

We are grateful to Countybank for their devotion to all youth as they challenge the Greenwood Community to support the YMCA 'Partners with Youth' Program for 2005. We can not fully measure the total breadth of outreach that the YMCA is able to project through the lives touched and nurtured by the love in this program," said Brian Waldrep, Greenwood Family YMCA vice president and Partners with Youth Campaign Chair.

"This $10,000 challenge grant further inspires the board, staff, membership, and friends of the YMCA to participate wholeheartedly in this Community effort to build 'sound mind and body' for the future of our Youth so that no one is deprived of YMCA participation."
