Answers Local Soccer Club's "Call for Support"
GREENWOOD, SC -
Countybank Foundation recently presented a donation to the Greenwood
Toros Soccer Club Capital Campaign to renovate the Phoenix Street Football
Field. The Toros Soccer Club began its campaign to provide a safe environment
for the club members to develop and master their soccer skills.
According to Chris
Kirkland, Toros Soccer Club Treasurer, the first major project is raising
$50,000 to install a new lighting system. To date, nearly half of the
amount needed has been raised, with the first $20,000 being contributed
by individuals. The remaining funds have been made by corporate donors,
such as Countybank. "I am pleased to be a part of Greenwood and
Countybank making this level of commitment to the youth in our community,"
said David Tompkins, banking officer with Countybank and past Toros
Soccer Club coach. "In my experience, Toros has helped kids develop
their team and relationship skills, and brought families together in
a fun and fulfilling activity."
According to John
McAlhany, Past President of the Toros Soccer Club, the area around the
field is in dire need of clean-up and by renovating the field and the
areas around it the Club hopes others in the community will see the
need for additional clean-up efforts in the downtown area. "This
could be the beginning of many great things to come for the Uptown Greenwood
area," said McAlhany.
They are making
a "Call for Support" to the Greenwood community to assist
the $100,000 Capital Campaign. If you are interested in making donations
please contact Chris Kirkland at 223-2423, Johnny McAlhany at 388-7816
or Claude Robinson at 942-1580. For contributors known as "Lamplighters"
whose donation or pledges exceeds $1,000 a lighting ceremony will be
held in the very near future.
Countybank began
its service to the Greenwood community in 1933, when it was founded
by a group of Greenwood businessmen. Today, Countybank is a full service,
integrated financial services provider with three full-service locations
and four automatic teller machines. In addition to a full array of traditional
banking products, Countybank is composed of separate divisions that
are positioned to meet specialized financial needs, including Countybank
Trust Services, Countybank Mortgage Services, Countybanc Investments,
Inc., and Countybanc Insurance, Inc. Each division is staffed by the
area's most sought-after professionals in their respective fields to
provide customers with the tools to achieve their financial goals.
